Because it is so cold out...

...my dog has decided that this would be the best way to cope:

Is it possible for any creature to look more comfortable and cozy?

(Editor's Note: This is how I found her this morning. She was not positioned this way for the sake of a cute photo.)

In other news, the Gamers With Jobs podcast featuring Shawn Elliott and myself is up Click here! Apologies for the fact that I sound like I was in a wind tunnel. The truth is: I was in a wind tunnel! LOL!!

  1. I would kill for 6C weather right now.

  3. That first picture is straight out of "Touched by an Angel". Or possibly the nativity scene with a dog.

  4. Did Shawn really get you to join the symposium?
Also, I find it odd in the podcast that they beeped Shawn saying "cock" but never beeped "fuck"

  5. Like a wind tunnel full of dicks?

I don't know if you take requests for here or podcasts, but I would love to hear more about your leadership role at GFW and how you assembled, grew the team, what vision you had for it vs. what eventually came to pass, mistakes / successes, et al.

  6. Great to hear you and Shawn together again, Jeff. Lots of insightful gaming talk from everyone involved. I hope this team-up with the GWJ guys happens again in the future.

  7. Your dog looks so cute. More pictures please! :)

  8. I'm looking forward to downloading GWJ's podcast today. In the meantime I second the motion from Stray Neutrino.

It would be very interesting to have your inside story, a "no holds barred" (notice my nice ""s), on the team at GFW, your personal high points as well as frustrations at the magazine, the role that each editor played on the team, even going back to understanding whatever happened to Robert Coffey. He seemed to drop out of the spotlight once he lost the back page.

Besides the fun, the opinions and the beastly banter, The Brodeo somehow made me feel like a part of your team, peeking behind the curtains of the human relationships, personalities and the daily grind at the magazine. Honestly, I miss this feeling.

So, please wrap around your community of users/readers/fanboys here a nice warm blanket of Greenspeak plus some extra podcasticity. In return we'll buy more excellent games from those fine folk at EA.

  9. ...the world will NEVER move on. Neither should you. IMO, we need you and Mr. Elliot to make some guest appearances on LAN party. Old school vs. New school. playground tussle style. But definitely enjoyed the GWJ podcast. And just like how you guys dominated the Brodeo, you and shawn BEASTED their podcast too.

  10. "..Hello and Welcome"

ahh yes. music to my ears. that podcast was the highlight of my day. thanks

  11. Not one mention of Dorito dust...or the future Jeff and Shawn podcast and I still enjoyed the whole thing!
It was nice to hear your voices again from a LONG time listener.
    Love,

  12. How refreshing is it that Jeff Green is still Jeff Green?

Pretty damn refreshing, if you ask me.

I'm about halfway through the GWJ podcast, and it was nice to hear your input on the industry in the same, non-filtered manner in which you discussed gaming on the CGW/GFW podcast.

Thank you for being you, Black Dragon. Don't ever change.

  13. It sure was nice hearing you two again, but dang it all to heck if I can't stand the rest of those guys. >_<

  14. It's cold down there as well? Up here in Oregon we have 3 inches of snow on the ground pretty much everywhere, with more on it's way :)

  15. Wasn't sure it was you when you got the date right. ;)

Don't listen to what's his name, there's an achievement "Test of Faith" for beating the story of Mirror's Edge without shooting anyone. It's 80 points, too.

  16. Two things my man:

It was great hearing you and Shawn on GWJ. It'd be great to see the two of you on podcasts more often (though that's obviously difficult.)

And, how cold is so cold? Because after the weekend we had here in Fargo, anything above zero is downright balmy. (I think windchill brought it below -50F at some point Sunday night.) Although, on the plus side, I got to watch two plows ramming each other in an attempt to get un-stuck from a snowbank. Good times.

  17. I've missed that Jeff humor, and Shawn's thoughts. You guys are awesome! xD
Seriously, great casting to an already great pod.

Hope to be able to hear you two soon again with all your thoughts and humor.

  18. As it stands right now, it is 6°F outside my house. The forecast calls for it becoming colder.

  19. Good job on the podcast Jeff. What you added was worthwhile and valued. Kudos Sir, Kudos.

On a serious note, though they may mean the same thing, aren't 'disappointment' and 'disaster' (or fucking disaster I forget), rather different words in the world of PR? I was impressed with the candor.

  20. Cute photos, but you have my sympathies. I find few things make leaving the house and going to work harder than a cold morning and a cozy, cuddly puppy. Especially since I'm usually sure the dog's going to have a better day.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Mean, bittersweet melodies all the time. The puppy is supercute and makes me happy but also sad at the same time (reminds me of back when i had a dog and one day my mom called and said she brought him to the dog place, i yelled no but she did and i couldn´t get him back anymore as someone had already picked him up and they didn´t give me the name :( )
Same bittersweetness with you and Shawn being on a podcast again, on one side that´s really great as always, until, well, one remembers its not always anymore but at best 1-2 times per year maybe :(
I want more Jeff and Shawn podacsts! :)

  22. So The Sims 3 isn't going to be the community simulator that we were promised?

My fear was that The Sims 3 would be exactly like The Sims 2, except that it would take place on a much bigger lot, and that there would be much less emphasis placed on maintenance of personal hygiene.

I also feared that there would be a massive hole in the game, which, alas, would only be filled by the many expansion packs that would be released in the years to come.

Doesn't matter, really - I'll be buying it anyhow.

In fact, The Sims 3 might be the first title I'll buy for the new PC which I plan on buying in late January.

I've been visiting the Dell website on a daily basis for the past three months, and have become somewhat obsessed with Dell's pricing strategies - there's no rhyme or reason to the thing. One day you'll price a system for, say, two thousand dollars, only to discover three days later that the exact same system is now selling for two thousand five hundred dollars?

I've got my eye on the XPS 730, which has just been upgraded with the new i7 CPU from intel. I hadn't even realized that we're in the midst of a platform change here?

Anyhow, great time to buy a new PC - in the first quarter of 09 we're getting The Sims 3, FEAR 2, Empire: Total War, and Dragon Age.

Dragon Age in particular has really got my mojo tickled.

    The Goose.

  23. Man, that was good to hear you and Shawn. What a real treat. Please do more podcasts, we all miss hearing you guys!!

I like LAN party: Ryan, Anthony, Robert, Tina, that new guy, great folks. Great podcast. But compared to The Brodeo...well it's kinda like getting PC Gamer in my mailbox instead of GFWTOM....

PS. I think they should have called the other Shawn guy by his last name, who cares if it's their show.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The GWJ podcast was awesome. Please make sure you both can get booked on that show again.

    ReplyDelete
  25. That GWJ podcast was quite enjoyable. I think those guys do a great job on their own; but they also do a good job handling guests and letting you guys talk, while still steering the show along.

You know I never get tired of listening to Shawn Elliot talk. I bet he would have been a great teacher if he would have pursed that path.

Jeff still sounds the same. He still speaks with the same amount of openness and honesty. When Jeff did the intro in the old GFW style, it was um, heartwarming.

  26. It can not possibly actually be "cold" where you are. If your nose hairs do not freeze when you go outside (a sensation that is instantly recognizable but indescribable) it is not cold.

  27. I recently unsubscribed to the old GFW Radio feed. Hearing you on the podcast reminded me of how much I looked forward to the brodeo every week.

I was introduced to GFW, and you specifically, Jeff, in the most negative way possible, and you managed to make me a fan anyway. I always meant to write you an email about the story, but I guess I've been too lazy, or maybe I could never find an e-mail address.

At this point, I'd subscribe to a podcast that consisted of you doing dramatic readings of bad game/fantasy writing.

I'm not sure if I'm kidding.

Either way, it was nice to hear you guys again.

    All the best, man.

  28. My little dog always looks that way in the morning right as I'm about to leave for work. God does it ever make me jealous......

  29. "I was introduced to GFW, and you specifically, Jeff, in the most negative way possible, and you managed to make me a fan anyway."

That's cool to hear...but, what was the most negative way possible to be introduced to me? What did I do? Personally urinate on your magazine?

    I'm just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I just read about EA letting 1k people go. Immediatly I thought how you're holding up Jeff.
Somehow I believe you're still working hard and all that, and they're not letting you out that easy.
Still, kind of makes you think.

    Best of wishes, signed.

  31. It was great hearing ya on gamers with jobs! Have a great weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  32. On second thought, I guess it wasn't the most negative way possible, considering there wasn't any excrement involved...

It started with all the drama of the switch to games for windows... Well, I'm a fan of Russ Pitts, and he used to do the GWJ podcast, as I'm sure you know.

He got a job at the Escapist, and started Escape Radio(which lasted about 4 episodes). On that show is where I heard about the whole switch to GFW and how you guys were switching to be "Microsoft's bitch, the magazine".

Russ also pointed out that you specifically e-mailed him to say how much you like the Escapist, but on your own podcast said that you "can't stand" the people at a particular web site, which they were assuming was the Escapist. etc etc

This is about when I decided to check things out for myself. You guys were sellouts to Microsoft and Jeff Green in particular was a dickhead.

Even coming from that (ignorant)perspective, you guys managed to change my mind about all of that very quickly. I soon became a fan of the brodeo(which I listened to almost exclusively for you... or your content on the show, or however you want to put it), and through that became a fan of your writing as well.

So that's more or less the story. Probably not very interesting, but I thought there was a chance you'd think it was kind of cool.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oooh, that is a good story. Thanks! I only have a vague recollection of whatever happened between the Escapist and myself. I do have great admiration for that website and the people who work for it. I do think I made some veiled reference to them on the podcast, on a day where I was annoyed about some comments somebody over there had made about GTW. So, yeah, I think "words were exchanged"--but it's all ancient history now. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. "... What did I do? Personally urinate on your magazine?"

WTF? I missed the 'Scratch 'n' Sniff' issue???

    Damn.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think your dog needs to try out some Canada whether, he'd probably try hiding in the furnace! But I guess your place is colder than it was before. Still a cute photo.

Great GWJ podcast, I was up till 4 am listening to it, cause I couldn't get myself to turn it off. I hope you really are on the symposium.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey Jeff if you read the comments then you might want to read this about Mirrors Edge. I just finished the game a few minutes ago and I LOVED it. Not only did I get to see the end but I also got 2 achievements. 1 for completing the story and Another for not shooting a single enemy during the whole game. The GWJ were wrong about there not being an Achievement for it.

Now for other comments :P Your dog is So Cute!

P.S. No I will not give you my email. I don't need fan mail. ^.^
