Yes yes, I know.

The posting frequency has gone down alarmingly--from every day to every other day to two days skipped in a row just now. DO NOT PANIC. Do not rush for the borders. All will be fine.

Week Two at EA has found me suddenly with, ya know, Work To Do, which I guess had to happen eventually, plus my evenings have been filled with other important functions (like new episodes of "Heroes" and "House") that have distracted me from my important blogging duties. Now, seeing as though I have a mere 1/2 hour to get my arse, and the rest of me, into the shower, dressed, and on the motorcycle back down to EA, a few quick notes:

1) My new motorcycle is amazing. Huzzah! The switch from a 600cc to a 900 has proven to be better than I had hoped for, especially for the long 35 mile drive. The ability to go faster + a much more comfortable seat/stance = Happy Jeffrey. Gas mileage on this beast has proven to be pretty good! Roughly 45-50 MPG. Also: the maneuverability is *much* easier than I expected, making lanesplitting a snap, plus this thing has fantastic torque---meaning I can accelerate past distracted morons very easily. Also: it's louder. Louder = more awareness that I exist. So, yeah. I'm in love.

2) Speaking of non-sentient machines that I am in love with: I got my iPhone yesterday--another EA perk. Short review: OMG. One con so far that hopefully I'll get over: The keyboard is really not that easy to type on. My thumbs keep hitting the wrong "keys", requiring lots of correcting. The Treo was much easier this way. On the other hand, the Treo was a business device, while this is a total toy. And, ya know, toys > business devices ALWAYS.

3) Heroes: I may be back on board. I thought I was done after the season premiere, only because I couldn't remember at all what had happened in Season 2 as I was watching, and, worse, I didn't care. Everyone is just doing whatever now, and Kuresh is still alive. But I watched Monday's episode this week, and while continuing to not be great, I realized that it's just not dumb enough to sorta have me involved again. Just don't ask me to make sense of it all, and don't try to convince me that it does, cuz I won't believe you.

4) House: *Great* new season so far. The private detective, while kind of just a mini-House, is still a good foil for Our Hero, and his interactions with Cuddy this week were right on. How come I never noticed, even with House saying it every week, how attractive Cuddy is? Now I know.

5) Oh shit, I'm gonna be late for work. GREAT. See what you made me do? Okay, one last thing: Erickson's Deadhouse Gates is turning into a great read. Those who warned me that Gardens of the Moon, the first in the series, wasn't as well written as the subsequent books, I see what you mean now. I'm on board. On the other hand, any writer who can't come up with a better name for one of his villains than "Anomander Rake" still gets one shifty eye from me.

Over and out.....for now!

We understand Jeff!!!

Is you iPhone a company phone?!?! We only get shitty Nokias over here!

Real work to do, already? Quit man, find another job! It's just going to get worse . . .

Jeff, have you ever sneezed while on your bike? What's that like?

I'm a rapid fire sneezer myself, so anytime this happens while operating my car, I turn into that driver that has hit a mysterious patch of black ice.

Glad the bike is working out for you. I'm about to have to put mine away for the winter. I hate snow.

And yeah, if this Cuddy love story continues and it means I get to see more of her cleavage, then everybody wins

I was amazed by the initial frequency.

Remember blogging is no excuse for:
- falling off your bike and causing yourself serious damage (what's the health plan like at EA)

or

- producing poor games ('My blog ate my gameplay' is not a valid excuse.)

Posting from my iPhone to say that you get used to the keyboard. It's still more toy than business device, but it's such an awesome toy. Have you loaded any games onto it yet? Spore Origins, perhaps? That would seem appropriate.

From my experience using my brother's iPhone, you just can't type with your thumbs. It seems archaic, but you must return to the days of hen pecking for keys with your index finger.

Hey Jeff If you're late, just speed...responsibly! I jest...maybe...

This might be preachy but Apple, being a lifestyle brand, tend to have consumers conform to Apple's (Steve Job's) way of doing things instead of the other way around.

The word prediction on the iPhone works quite well for me, about 85%-90% of the time. It's only fussy if I'm trying to type some of the more obscure texting lingo (i.e. txt) or onimonopeas. It does "LOL" and it learns what you want to type eventually.

Here's a tip:
I usually ignore what I'm typing until I complete a word to check spelling instead of check letter by letter. It gives the phone a chance to predict what you want. You'll be typing smoothly in no time.

As for other things that you won't like, I'm sure you'll find others. I love my iPhone. It has its problems but generally it's a great toy and feels like it's more than the sum of its parts. It feels like it's just a few steps shy of a low end laptop in your pocket!

Hope that helps. Glad you're getting to channel you creative energies into promising project and career! Have a great day at work!

You know this means you have to start a twitter account, right? I bet GreenSpeak on there hasn't been taken yet.

I'm trying to avoid Twitter. It may be inevitable, but right now I am resisting.

Great to hear that things are moving along nicely at EA. I enjoy my iPhone, too! Keep it up, man! And yes, Cuddy has always been hot.

So Jeff... what is this "work to do" that has been keeping you so busy?? Also, I just watched "Jeff Green 'Goodbye Black Dragon'". I didn't know it existed till just a min ago. Your podcast is missed. Maybe you could get on w/ Leo Laporte as a game reviewer as a side job! huh huh huh?

Man I really want to get a motorcycle. They're small (and therefore maneuverable), fast, and get great gas mileage (compared to cars, at least).

Too bad I don't even have a full license yet!

I also want an iPhone. When the 3G was announced, everybody was complaining that you have to pay for text messages. A valid complaint, yes, but I never text message, so $200 is a freaking steal for me.

Dammit I need TiVo or need to set aside my House watching hour. Dammit after hearing about your gas mileage it makes me weep that I don't have sufficient funds to get me a sweet ride. Keep on truckin'

Just make the n-th comment; the iPhone keyboard will take [a little] time to get use to.

ian hoar said...

my iphone typing tip. let it fix it for you. if you just soldier on typing as if you are pressing all the right keys it does a surprisingly good job of fixing it all for you. if you tiptoe around the keyboard like you want to hit each key correctly it is very slow.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Jordan. Trusting the keyboard helps bring up your typing speed. I'm a two-thumb iPhone typist at this point.

EA ought to set up time for you to communicate with the outside. Seriously. Otherwise we just have to sue them for kidnapping.

Glad your enjoying yourself anyhow.

House is great. I hope Wilson gets back into the show though 'cause he was the best anti-House. What about Fringe? Have you tried watching that?

I'm with you on heroes, haven't clue what's going on. All I know is that Mohinder is turning into The Fly.

Hey, mix in a steak every now and then.

The iPhone touchpad works best when you don't worry about it - the harder you try, the more you fuck up. That's the advise I heard and have tried on other people's iPhone's and it seems to work. I don't have an iPhone myself because I'm not an asshole!

I'm going shopping this weekend for a side car for your bike so I can ride with you.

Do you feel like the new intern in the house?
What have you done so far?
We won't tell anyone!

Dude, I'm telling you: Have your Crying Towel ready because Deadhouse Gates gets REALLY grim at the end. (And Memories Of Ice is even worse.)

"Also: it's louder. Louder = more awareness that I exist. "

Ahem. When you're lanesplitting at fifty miles an hour through stopped traffic, you could sound like fuckin' Godzilla and people wouldn't be able to tell you were coming. If you're concerned about lanesplitting being hazardous, then don't goddamn do it.

You are correct sir! However, when I said "more visibility" I just meant in general, not necessarily while taking the lanesplitting risk. I mean, even when sitting politely in my own lane, the sound of my bike is going to make others aware that I exist. Or not! Who knows! I usually just assume everyone is blind and deaf and dumb and proceed from there...

Dont know if you know this Jeff but you've seem to have made a cameo in a Little Big Planet level.

Jeff, on a scale of 1 to 10, how effeminate is the chicken blox in Boom Blox? I'm having a hard time with this myself, and I shall have none of that "hermaphrodite" nonsense. Good game, just a bit less androgyny next time, EA, please? Crap, I just realized that I'm already equating you, Jeff Green, to EA itself. Shit. I'm out.

Glad to see your still alive Jeff. Have fun at work.

Nice! Are you gonna get any games for your iPhone? :P

Hey, at least you're still posting, not like that Elliott guy, now that he's on the fast lane he doesn't even twitter anymore :P

Also, i really want a bike too :(

Jeff want to find a good way to waste time?
Download Auroa Feint for the iphone.
it's free!
just thought i would like to make a little suggestion for ya jeff.

Holy shit, this is commitment. The guy is actually blogging before work? Me, myself, I do it DURING work.

But then again I don't work for a corporate monster, and therefore don't have to deal with video cameras pointed at my cubicle from every available angle with Big Brother watching the in background.

Jeff, in all seriousness, be damned careful when you're on that hog of yours. My guess is that you're probably spending a lot of time thinking about work related stuff. When you're on that bike of yours make sure that you focus on the road and only on the road. Take a breather before you put your helmet on and focus yourself.

We'd hate to lose one of our best bloggers!

Wabe.

(Damn, I always get that stupid word-verification thing wrong. Whose idea was that anyhow?)

If you never noticed Cuddy was attractive before this week, you should re-watch the end of last season when she dressed like a schoolgirl and did a striptease for House...in his mind.

Heroes is not looking good this season. I hope it will recover, as it did last year, but I'm not sure if I have the same patience I did last year.

Good luck with your Work To Do.

I've had my G3 phone since launch, and typing does get considerably easier the more you do it. Be careful though, no spell-check= mocking from whomever receives an email that has miss spelled words. I also love and hate the "corrected" word choices.

On a final note... DON'T TWITTER! it's for punks like Shane B, who have nothing better to do than attempt to boost their voice through bullshit single lines of text.

Jeff, I won your face in LittleBigPlanet a couple days ago. It was the best thing I've ever unlocked in a videogame.

If you want to unlock it yourself, here is the level.

One perk of a loud bike: you can get up next to dickholes yapping away on their phones. It's always amusing to watch them try to drown you out.

I'm not really into Heroes this year. The plot arc seems like a pale version of the first season, the characters continue to do stupid things even within the realms of comic book logic and there are still too many characters in too many different places; that made sense in the first season which was an Origin Story, but now it's just "Who is that again? And why are they doing that?"

Pushing Daisies, however, is still awesome.
